"Next is Rapture (from the Rapture Trilogy) by Phillip W. Simpson, an intriguingly different take on the apocalypse. Avoiding the cliches of instant conversion and the earnest threat of so many other Christian novels, this story sets up its own mythology. It's enticingly Biblical without being didactic. And it's a great teen adventure, with all the thrills of the journey, the soul-searching of the outsider, the pains of loss and rejection, and the dreams of forlorn hope. Half-demon Sam might be denied the joys of heaven, but he's not denied love, and he will love and save all those he can. Enjoy this rich, elegant tale with some 4-star complex coffee, but keep a bold dark 5-star brew to hand for the darkest hour." Click here to read other reviews on her site

"The Rapture trilogy holds together really well. The world is built on biblical mythology and stays faithful to it throughout all three books, while weaving in its own unique legend. The characters grow, but remain true to their origins. The promise of the first book is realised in the last. Sam’s part in the war is creative in a way that I wasn’t expecting; his mother is brought into the novel finally and more of the ideas of Heaven and Hell are explored." The author’s not trying to convince me of any particular scriptural interpretation. He’s not trying to convert me and change my life. And he’s not just jumping on a popular bandwagon either. Instead he offers a well-plotted, intriguingly different tale, with a fascinating teen protagonist, left behind in a desperate world." Kat at the Aussie Zombie kindly mentions Rapture in her latest post!
Rapture by Phillip W. Simpson With a plot based in Christian eschatology, in theory I should never have liked this series. But it was the main character that really made this series for me - and despite my reservations, the religious aspect didn't bother me at all - and by the end I actually understood more about it ;) Click here to visit her site Narrative Fiction Writing This series supports teachers to teach the details of how to write clearly while inspiring students to write with confidence. After giving a clear and concise account of writing pedagogy and the structure of narratives, the book describes the structure, text features and purpose of some of the most popular text types - action and adventure, crime and mystery, folk tales, science fiction and fantasy. An engaging collection of carefully chosen texts is also included as exemplars of each text type. Discussion points that support students to analyse the text structures enhance the teaching value of these exemplars. Authored by an expert in teaching writing, this book will help guide students to write clear, compelling narrative fiction. I’m expecting to begin the editing process in June so it’s probably timely to look at editing tools that can help in the process.
Access Granted In today’s writer’s market, having tools available on your computer, phone, or tablet is essential. Being able to communicate with freelancers and employers, or check up on your latest assignment from anywhere, has become the norm. Access to websites and other online resources has also gone up. Many companies are moving to an online platform that can be supported in any device’s browser or are creating apps that are easy to use. With writers accessing their work on-the-go more than ever before, knowing which online tools are essential is key. Tools of the Trade Grammarly: Grammarly is an amazing overall tool for writers. Not only does it have a great grammar and spell check tool, it also helps you to improve your work. I love using the context-optimized synonym generator and adaptive spell check tools. They allow me to see better word choices and fix common typing errors, such as mistaking two and too. With teaching classes as well as question and answer boards, Grammarly not only provides writing services but also a community where writers can get help from each other. It’s also accessible from any device, so if you need to proofread an email or double check your latest blog post while running errands, Grammarly has you covered. Ginger:: Ginger is basically a personal assistant that helps you check your grammar, rephrase sentences, and improve your writing skills. Its text reader traces through sentences to help you spot errors and hear how your sentences sound out loud. It can also be accessed from any device and lives to serve your every writing need. If you’re waiting for your child to finish up swim lessons, you can use the personal trainer tool to learn more about semi-colons and dashes. If you’ve been staring at the same sentence for days and just can’t figure out how to fix it, try the sentence rephraser. Ginger, like Grammarly, offers a variety of tools to help writers at every point of their process. Writer’s Market on Your Kindle or Tablet: Writer’s Market is the essential tool for writers to get published and now it’s available on your Kindle or tablet. Take it anywhere with you while you’re searching for an agent, publisher, or for freelance opportunities. Writer’s Market is also easy to bookmark, highlight, and use on your Kindle. If you’re like me, you already carry your Kindle and/or tablet with you everywhere because you never know when you might have a few spare moments. You can look back at important pieces of the book without toting around a huge tome of information. Additionally, Writer’s Market is cheaper on Kindle. Saving money in any way while trying to start your writing career is helpful Another great aspect of owning a Kindle or tablet is the availability of tools and apps for writers. Poets and Writers, Wordpress, Trello, and Kindle all have apps for your tablet. If you have a Kindle Fire, you’ve combined the best of both worlds. I used to think it was gluttonous to own a tablet and a computer, but it’s really made my writing career much easier to handle. I can surf for jobs, proofread my work, read new books, or research all from one location without lugging around my heavy computer. With these tools, you can access anything your writing career needs. Take Advantage of the Digital Age As a new age writer, you can take full control of your writing life from many digital angles. You can answer emails from the beach, do work on the train, or edit your work all from one place. The tried and tested tools above will help you write and edit with confidence while you’re able to work from anywhere.
