Phillip has a background in Archaeology.  He completed a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology and then went on to do a Masters
(Hons 2:1) in Archaeology (Anthropology).  He also had a brief stint in the army as an officer cadet.

Phillip then completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Museum Studies and worked as a curator and archaeologist before travelling overseas. He lived and worked in London for four years and after foolishly rejecting a job opportunity at the British Museum and fell into recruitment of all things. He recruited I.T professionals for the banking sector in London. Like most Kiwis abroad, he travelled extensively around Europe and the UK.

He then returned to the Southern Hemisphere (via Africa) where, along with his brother, John, set up a recruitment company in Sydney. He continued to recruit I.T staff for the next three years and worked at Sydney University in the evenings with a view to starting his Ph.D  in Archaeology. He also completed an extramural Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.

He had written mostly for his friends at that point – light pieces based on various travels through Nepal and Peru. Some of these friends suggested he should get more serious with it.

At that point, he sold his interests in the recruitment company and took a year off to complete his first manuscript, the adult science fiction novel Overdrive.

During that time, he met his wife to be, Rose, at a friend’s wedding. He then completed a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (primary). He’s been teaching and writing ever since. He has written over 50 children’s books and numerous articles and short stories for local and international markets. Publishers include Penguin, Macmillan, Cengage, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Essential Resources, Iversen and Pear Jam books.
