Reader’s reviews for Rapture

Sheila, Goodreads, 12.18.11, 4 out of 5 stars

“I was interested in reading this book because it falls into two of my favorite genres: apocalyptic/dystopian novels, and Christian fiction. And I will admit that I have read the entire Left Behind series, which are also novels based on the premise that Christian rapture has occurred.

Well, this is definitely NOT the Left Behind series. And I say that in a good way. Where Left Behind is a character based contemporary story of those left behind after the rapture, this book is a gritty, dark, demon filled story, more of a Young Adult novel, and more along the lines of The Road meets The Hunger Games. Definitely not your typical Christian fiction YA novel.

In the beginning of the book I was a little distracted by some of the antipodean vernacular that the author, who is from New Zealand, was using, especially considering that the story was set in the western United States. But once a female Angel Gabriel appeared, a fascinating back story was told by a Catholic priest, and a trip to hell was taken by some of the characters, I was so engrossed in the story that there was no stopping me. I was hooked!

Apparently this is the first book in a trilogy, and I am now eagerly looking forward to the next book.”

Jenee, Goodreads, 12.20.11, 4 out of 5 stars

“Another unusual reading choice for me. However this book had probably one of the best covers I have ever seen and after being seduced by it for weeks I had to give it a try. Thankfully I wasn't disappointed.

The story moves along at a fast pace, and the action continues to build. I realize now that this is part one of a trilogy, but unlike a lot of other books written with a sequel in mind it didn't leave you unsatisfied at the end, but left you wanting more. I will say that the writing did dip slightly in quality when it reverted back to the past, but in the exposition was necessary and not terrible or anything, just slightly less interesting as the post-rapture portions of the book. One other small complaint, is that Sam is supposed to be a United States citizen and the action all takes place in the US, but several words are spelled in Queen's English, (centre, instead of center or the use of tin instead of can.) It doesn't effect the quality of the story line, but is mildly distracting. Anyway I look forward to the sequel and finding out what happens next.”

Fiona, Goodreads, 12.19.11

“Well this was great - cannot wait for the next one - hope that it is coming out soon...

I loved Sam and the world building...

Very Clever and quick read...

Highly recommended”

"Not a single scene felt like a drag or filler. WOW, the fighting scenes felt fresh and not repetitive at all. The monsters are… you guessed it's demons. I’m no expert but I lke to add Phil did his research. The plot twist, the betrayal , I honestly did not think that person who’d be the betrayer . The bad guy was a Baddie, lol."
